Blocking the rank with Rook

 Another lesson!

I had been in a circumstance when I had a pawn and a rook but really struggled to protect it. 

I would have shown the game that i played but i would have to spend lot of time going through my past games. But, simply stating I used to keep the Rook and Pawn in the same rank like if i had the pawn on h rank I would mostly keep the Rook also on h rank and eventually the King would fork them and I wouldn't have a good square to protect the rook eventually I would lose the pawn.

Even in this particular game, I was guessing on move no 54 I though the player would move the Rook to h8. But, to my surprise there was a 'excellent move' that was g5 (Umm....I have kept it in quotes to indicate there could be other better move! If you spotted it leave a comment below!! ). And, if you couldn't come up with another 'excellent move' it's alright because there isn't any better move. Lol!

Anyways, concluding thought use Rook to block the whole rank for the King so that the pawn on the other side can Queen.
